About the Webinar

Even before the mass Irish immigration caused by Great Famine, tensions were rising as Nativists reacted against the growing Catholic population in the United States.  When Philadelphia’s Irish Catholic community objected to anti-Catholic bias in public school religious instruction, violent riots erupted. Mobs burned churches—including St. Michael’s—and destroyed homes and businesses. The unrest resulted in at least 20 deaths, Dozens injured, and Over 200 Irish Catholics displaced.

Featured Speakers:

Kevin J. Brett, Leader of the effort to secure the Pennsylvania Historical Marker and Organizer of the upcoming dedication ceremony

Bill News, Former investigator with organizations including Philadelphia Stock Exchange and FDIC, Active in Irish history and genealogy research.

What’s Next

This webinar will also preview the Pennsylvania Historical Marker unveiling on May 9, 2026, along with a full day of Irish cultural celebration.

The State Board meets quarterly in different parts of the State. We do our best to meet in the East, the West, in the North, the South, and in any part of the State in between. We try to meet where we currently have Divisions, most especially active Divisions, whether they are large or small. All members in good standing are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings to get a better understanding of how the Order works and bring information back to your Divisions and County Boards. It’s a great opportunity for Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity
Brothers, please mark your calendars and plan on attending future State Board meetings. If staying overnight, please see the booking information listed for each location.
Once we settle the details for the May 2026 meeting, we will get them to you.
Also, please consider attending the National Convention next year. Pennsylvania has two of our Brothers running for office, and they could use our help getting re-elected. We are working on a fundraiser to help provide stipends to delegates.
Once we have everything settled, we will be asking for the help of all members across the State with this important fundraiser.
